On April 7, 2020, Google released a new version of the Google Chrome browser. Google Chrome 81 runs on all major operating systems: Windows 10 / Windows 7, macOS, Linux, Android and iOS. Chrome 81 fixed 32 security bugs. The mobile version has changed the system requirements, Chrome 81 requires Android 4.4 or newer.
What’s new in version 81
The major changes in Chrome 81 include:
- To reduce the risk of vulnerability to MITM attacks and other data manipulation, Chrome now blocks mixed content (that is, unprotected content downloaded from protected sites).
- FTP support has been disabled. In the next release all FTP-related code will be removed from the code base.
- When saving a password, a warning is now displayed if the password is entered on an insecure site.
- Two new interactive features to support augmented reality in web resources: the WebXR AR module and the Hit-test API component.
- For mobile devices, Web NFC API support was added, allowing web apps to read and write NFC tags. NFC is a short-range wireless technology for transferring small amounts of data.
- The stability and performance of the Android version has been improved.
- The iOS version has fixed bookmarking glitches.
