On January 10, 2023, Google released a new version of the Google Chrome browser. Google Chrome 109 runs on all major operating systems: Windows 11 / 10 / 7, macOS, Linux, Android and iOS. Chrome 109 has fixed 17 vulnerabilities. It is the latest version with support for Windows 7 and Windows 8/8.1.
What’s new in version 109
The major changes in Chrome 109 include:
- new Material You themes,
- improvements related to screen sharing during video calls: Conditional Focus allows web apps to control whether an active tab or window will be in focus, Screen Capture API suppresses local audio playback if other people are talking in the room,
- new multi-platform update installer engine with improved performance and reliability,
- Safe Browsing mode is now able to unpack archives in 7z format (previously only .zip and .rar were supported) while scanning files for malware,
- resolved the issue with slow Linux scrolling speeds on Wayland,
- extended translation settings on the chrome://settings/language page,
- Android version has now Secure Payment Confirmation (SPC) option for secure authentication of credit and bank cards and other means of payment using biometrics.
