Google Chrome 76.0.3809.100

On July 30, 2019, Google released a new version of the Google Chrome browser. Google Chrome 76 runs on all major operating systems: Windows 10 / Windows 7, macOS, Linux, Android and iOS. Chrome 76 fixed 43 security bugs in the browser.

What’s new in version 76

The major changes in Chrome 76 include:

  • Adobe Flash is blocked by default. HTML5 is used instead of the obsolete technology.
  • Disabled one method of identifying incognito mode from sites. The method was used by some websites to show targeted ads. The file system API has been changed in Chrome 76, so scripts can no longer use it as an incognito mode indicator.
  • Installation of progressive web apps (PWAs) has been simplified – there is a separate button in the omnibox for this. You no longer have to look for the installation item in the main “three dots” menu.
  • Chrome has started blocking inappropriate ads on a large scale, since these ads are unwelcome and do not adhere to the criteria set by the Coalition for Better Ads.
  • Activated the default protection mode against third-party cookies.
  • Disabled the ability to detect when a page is open in incognito mode through manipulation of the FileSystem API, which was previously used by some publications to impose a paid subscription.
  • Toughened the criteria for detecting user activity on the page. Chrome now allows you to display pop-up notifications and play annoying video/audio content only after user activity on the page.
