Viber is a popular instant messenger used by millions of people all over the world. Sometimes you might want to delete one of your chats. But what if you want to restore it later, is it possible? Yes, there is a built-in tool called backup in the application settings. It saves your chat history at specified intervals.
Available options for recovering chats
You can restore chats by means built into the messenger. This is convenient because you do not need to download and install additional software, you do not need to connect your phone to your computer.
Or you can use third-party apps. The general algorithm of work in all cases: creating a backup beforehand, and further restoration from it, only technical details differ.
In older versions of Viber you could also email your messaging history, but now this option has been removed.
Restore from backup
One of the easiest ways to get a deleted chat back is to use Viber’s backup tool. To do this:
- Open Viber on your phone;
- Press “More”;
- Go to “Settings”;
- Tap on “Account”;
- Go to “Viber Backup,” which allows you to manage all your messenger data;
- Tap on “Back Up Now” to create a backup or “Restore” to restore from backup.
Tap on “Auto Backup” to set up automatic backups: daily, weekly, or monthly.
Third-party apps to recover chats
You can get your lost conversations back with third-party programs, an example of which is Titanium Backup. To do this:
- Go to the official website, download the software;
- Go to the “Downloads” folder, find the downloaded file, run it and install the app;
- Launch Titanium Backup, find Viber in the list and click on it;
- A backup is created.
The program creates copies in .txt text files, which you can read with almost any text editor. To restore a saved copy, go to the program menu and click the “Restore” button.
When it is impossible to restore chats
As we’ve learned, to recover your lost conversations from backups, you need backups.
Not Viber, not any other app can retrieve information from thin air. Thus, it is recommended to set up daily or weekly auto backups.
Recovering media files
Viber saves images and videos in the /viber/media folder. Connect your phone to your computer, open this folder using the File Explorer. You’ll find images in /viber/media/Viber Images, you can copy or move them wherever you want.
