On August 31, 2016, Google released a new version of the Google Chrome browser. Google Chrome 53 runs on all major operating systems: Windows 10, Windows 7, macOS, Linux, Android and iOS. Chrome 53 fixed 33 security issues.
What’s new in version 53
The major changes in Chrome 53 include:
- Limitations on Flash content processing have been introduced: invisible or too small (less than 5×5 pixels) Flash blocks, such as counters and identifier generators, will now be blocked if the “Detect and run important plugin content” option is selected in the settings. Blocking this type of content is expected to reduce system power consumption and increase responsiveness when browsing many sites.
- New browser appearance, including new bookmarks.
- New Symantec certificates are no longer trusted due to a security non-compliance of the certificate authority.
- Experimental support for Web Bluetooth API, which allows sites to interact with external devices via Bluetooth using GATT (Generic Attribute Profile) protocol.
- In mobile versions, voice search can now answer contextual questions, and audio is muted during video autoplay.
