On December 1, 2015, Google released a new version of the Google Chrome browser. Google Chrome 48 runs on all major operating systems: Windows 10, Windows 7, macOS, Linux, Android and iOS. Chrome 48 fixed 37 security issues.
What’s new in version 48
The major changes in Chrome 48 include:
- Support for VP9 video codec in WebRTC, which has half the bandwidth of VP8 and H264.
- Discontinued support for RC4 encryption in HTTPS. This encryption method was created in 1987 and is now obsolete.
- A new pane has been added to the developer tools to evaluate page security.
- When clearing history, the number of deleted items is now displayed.
- If the browser is linked to more than one account, a button to select the desired account appears.
- The key icon changes color when saving a password for clarity.
