On September 27, 2022, Google released a new version of the Google Chrome browser. Google Chrome 106 runs on all major operating systems: Windows 11 / 10 / 7, macOS, Linux, Android and iOS. Twenty vulnerabilities from previous versions were fixed in Chrome 106.

What’s new in version 106

The major changes in Chrome 106 include:

• Google Translate integration. Previously, you could right-click anywhere on a web page and select the Translate to English option. In Chrome 106, this option is available both for entire pages and for highlighted text. You can turn this feature on or off using the chrome://flags#desktop-partial-translate
• RSS reader. In 2021, Chrome for Android and iOS got a tool to read RSS feeds in the form of Subscribe buttons on websites. Finally, the feature is starting to appear in the desktop version as well. The RSS reader is enabled with the chrome://flags/#following-feed-sidepanel
• Search history, bookmarks and tabs directly from the Omnibox address bar. The @history, @bookmarks and @tabs tags are available to localize searches.
• Support of HTTP/2 and HTTP/3 Server Push is now removed. It allowed websites to proactively send resources needed by the page instead of waiting for them to be requested.
• The ability to block a page opened in incognito mode in Android 11 after switching to another app. By default, blocking is disabled and requires activation in the privacy settings.
• Web app improvements. The new Pop-Up API allows web apps to use temporary UI elements that can be displayed on top of other elements. These elements are designed to display action menus, form element suggestions, content selection tools, and tutorial interfaces. Any element can be rendered on top of other elements using the API.
