Google Chrome 102.0.5005.63

On June 9, 2022, Google released a new version of the Google Chrome browser. Google Chrome 102 runs on all major operating systems: Windows 11 / 10 / 7, macOS, Linux, Android and iOS. 32 vulnerabilities from previous versions were fixed in Chrome 102, including several high-rated threats and one critical threat (CVE-2022-1853).

What’s new in version 102

The average user won’t care about what’s new in Chrome 102 because most of it introduces new API features or changes to the browser internals. If you’re not a developer, you might not notice the changes or new features at all. The major changes are:

  • A new Navigation API is introduced.
  • Improved downloads window interface – chrome://flags#download-bubble.
  • Redesigned image search through context menu.
  • When an HTTPS DNS record is deployed on a site and Chrome gets it, the browser will always connect via HTTPS.
  • Improved mechanism for structuring search history and browsing history.
  • Prohibited displaying the payment form through a PaymentRequest.show() call without an explicit user action.
  • Origin Private File System (OPFS, part of File System Access API) has been added with a new interface that provides very efficient data access.
  • Added support for the inert attribute that tells the browser to ignore user input events for an element, including focus events and events from assistive technologies.
  • Ended support and removed Plan B for WebRTC.
